Srinagar: Sectarian clashes broke out in the old city areas on Wednesday after which curfew was imposed in areas under nine police stations. The clashes erupted near Hawal area, a police spokesman said, adding there are no reports of casualty or injury.
Hawal, Gojwara and adjoining areas have become flash points for the sectarian violence over the past couple of years during Muharram processions. "The District Magistrate, Srinagar, has imposed curfew in
nine police station areas of the city," the police spokesman said.
Curfew has been imposed in Nowhatta, MR Gunj, Safakadal, Khanyar, Rainwari, Nigeen, Lal Bazaar, Zadibal and Parimpora police station areas, he said. Authorities are keeping a close watch on Shia-dominated areas of North Kashmir and central Kashmir's Badgam district.
