CHENNAI/SALEM: Hansraj Saxena, chief operating officer (COO) of Sun TV Network Ltd in T Nagar, on Wednesday moved the court of the principal sessions judge seeking bail.Following a complaint from T Selvaraj of Kandan Films in Salem, Saxena was arrested by the KK Nagar police for alleged offences under various sections, including 428 and 506(ii) of the IPC, and remanded in judicial custody on July 3.The charge against Saxena was that he had cheated Selvaraj of `83 lakh in a transaction in the distribution of Tamil feature film Theeratha Vilaiyattu Pillai in Salem.The petitioner submitted that the case projected by the prosecution was false and concocted. He had no complicity with the complainant and, in fact, he did not even know him. The police had taken him into custody for two days and throughly interrogated him. Besides, the case was only a civil dispute, that too failure of contractual obligation, he argued.Advance Bail for COO’s Associates Meanwhile, Mohammed Sadiq, K Sasi Kumar and V Thambidurai, said to be the associates of Saxena were granted advance bail by the Madras High Court.In the event of arrest, they could be relesed on bail on executing a personal bond for `10,000 each with two sureties each for a like sum, Justice G Rajasuriya said.They should reside in Madurai and report before the Thallakulam police twice a day, he added.The petitioners apprehended arrest following registration of a complaint from V S Shanmugam for offences under sections 147, 323, 324, 342, 385 and 506(ii) of the IPC by the KK Nagar police.I-T Raids at Film Distributor’s Office Sleuths of the income tax department, on the other hand, conducted raids on the office premises of T Selvaraj of Kandan Films in Salem on Wednesday evening.The Salem-based film distributor had lodged a complaint on July 1 with the Chennai City Police Commissioner against Saxena.Selvaraj alleged that Sun Pictures had sold him the Salem distribution rights for Vishalstarrer Theeratha Villayatu Pillai for `1.25 crore.Saxena, however, directly released the film, Selvaraj stated in his complaint and alleged that the COO refused to pay back `82.53 lakh demanded by Selvaraj, besides threatening him.Saxena was arrested on Sunday on charges of cheating and fraud.The I-T department in Salem refused to divulge details of the raid, but revealed that a team from its Coimbatore office had carried out the checks. Selvaraj’s house at Brindavan Road was locked and he couldn’t be located.His office was also locked immediately after the raids.But, department sources said the raids would have been conducted to ascertain whether Selvaraj was capable of a `1.25-crore deal.Documents pertaining to his business dealings, accounts and I-T returns came under check, they added.
