Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsThe Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) hospital at Warangal, which is the only major referral hospital for patients from north Telangana districts, is all set to get a major face lift with the state government sanctioning Rs 30 crore for upgrading facilities. The hospital authorities, who have already prepared an action plan for improving the infrastructure, are gearing up to undertake works following the sanction of funds for the 1,000-bed hospital. The government has finally woke up from its slumber following a number of infant deaths at the MGM hospital and started taking up corrective measures. The hospital authorities are preparing to improve the facilities using the Rs 30 cr sanctioned by the government after people’s representatives, including medical education minister Kondru Murali along with ministers Ramreddy Venkat Reddy and Basvaraj Saraiah visited the hospital on Aug 26 to check the facilities there. The committee of ministers, which visited the hospital recently, expressed the opinion that there was no negligence on the part of doctors behind the death of infants, but found the need to upgrade equipment. Following a meeting with CM N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the state government issued orders on Wednesday sanctioning Rs 30 crore for development of the hospital. The authorities will shortly invite tenders for the works. The hospital authorities have proposed to construct a new children ward with 100 beds, in addition to the existing 60-bed ward. To tackle the shortage of incubators and warmers in the children’s ward, it has been decided to purchase at least 20 units each, apart from 10 defibrillators, multichannel monitors and airconditioners each. To prevent short supply of oxygen, the authorities are planning to set up an oxygen plant on the hospital premises, instead of purchasing it through cylinders from outside. Collector and MGM hospital development committee chairman Rahul Bojja told Express that efforts are on to fill the vacant posts in the departments of cardiology, urology and neurology immediatelyfirst published:August 31, 2012, 10:31 ISTlast updated:August 31, 2012, 10:31 IST
