Geneva: Roger Federer has been given the day off as Switzerland seeks to seal its place in the Davis Cup final by winning Saturday's doubles.
The Swiss team, leading Italy 2-0 after Friday's singles, has named Stan Wawrinka and Marco Chiudinelli to play Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli.
Federer had been provisionally named to partner Wawrinka. The pair won doubles gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Swiss No. 1 earned Switzerland's first point Friday, beating Bolelli in straight sets.
Federer should play Fognini in the next singles match scheduled Sunday if Italy wins the doubles.
Switzerland has never won the Davis Cup and reached its only final 22 years ago, losing to the United States.
