CHENNAI: The Renny Abraham subsidised dialysis centre, run by The Tamil Nadu Kidney Research (TANKER) Foundation in Ambattur, has been given a reverse osmosis treatment plant to help more patients. The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), OBC Employee Welfare Association has donated the osmosis system to the five-bed unit as part of their Corporate Social Responsibilty activities. V Rangachari, Executive Director, Basin Manager, KG-PG, said, “Wherever our company has operations, we try to do our best to improve the condition of the society in that place.” Kidney failure kills almost 2.5 lakh people in India annually. It is the third largest killer after cancer and heart diseases and millions of people suffering from it in India can hardly afford the treatment. Dr B S Josyulu, Group General Manager, Basin Manager – Cauvery, applauded the work done by the TANKER Foundation, and promised help in the future from ONGC. He also said that he hoped the RO plant would help in assisting more patients.In reply, Latha A Kumaraswami, Managing Trustee of TANKER, said, “Within a few days, we will add another dialysis unit, and so the plant will help us treat two more patients a day.” The plant is worth `4 lakh, and was inaugurated by Rangachari and Josyulu. The Renny Abraham center is one of three subsidised dialysis units in Chennai. TANKER is planning to set up a similar facilty in Coimabtore shortly.
