Due of floods in Kaziranga national park, Rhinos have been driven out of their natural habitat.
Tezpur: An adult rhino was allegedly shot dead by forest guards when it attacked them at Barbheti village in Assam's Sonitpur district on Saturday.
The rhino attacked a team of five forest guards around 8.30 am when they were trying to guide the straying animal back to the Kaziranga National Park, forest department officials said.
The rhino, which strayed into the village about five days ago, received five bullet injuries and died on the spot.
Due of floods in the national park, Rhinos have been driven out of their natural habitat. Nearly 30 rhinos have been killed by poachers in 2013 alone.
