In a shocking incident in Maduravoyal, a 37-year-old realtor sustained injuries after he was allegedly shot at on Tuesday. Police recovered four unfired bullets and an empty shell from the spot. They suspected previous enmity in real estate business to be the reason behind the daring incident.
Police said L Manikumar (37), a native of Keezh Eral town in Thoothukudi District, living on Krishna Nagar 19th Street in Maduravoyal, was found unconscious in a pool of blood inside the compound of an apartment, ‘ManoBala Nivas’ on 9th Street, Krishna Nagar Extension, Maduravoyal. The 37-year-old sustained a bullet injury to the left side of his abdomen, police said.
Manikumar’s friends and business acquaintances Chandrasekar alias Chandru of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, Prasad Reddy and Bharath were residing in the apartment.
Around 5 am on Tuesday, Chandru reportedly opened his door and was shocked to see Manikumar lying injured in a pool of blood, the police said and added that he immediately alerted the victim’s brother Karthik. Manikumar was rushed to a private hospital at Valasarawakkam and later to a hospital in Porur. Meanwhile, police seized four unfired 9 mm bullets and an empty shell from the apartment compound. They said they suspected that the weapon used to fire at Manikumar could be country made.
“We could not find the pistol. Manikumar was operated on as the bullet had pierced through his abdomen and there was an exit wound on his back as well,” a police official said.
Police said Manikumar, who was living with his mother Seethalakshmi and younger brother Karthik (30), a textile trader, had come to Chennai 20 years ago and allegedly began selling pirated CDs while his father Lingasamy was a farmer. He ventured into real estate only a few years back and had worked with Chandru, Prasad and Bharath as an agent of one Karthik Reddy, the owner of the apartment. Police sources said that there were problems between them in the business. They that Manikumar was last seen near his friend’s apartment and he allegedly had liquor there. Chandru reportedly told the policemen that he did not hear any sound as he was sleeping inside in an AC room. However, neighbours claimed that they heard noises of some men fighting in the wee hours of Tuesday. Police sources said Chandru, Prasad, Bharath and Karthik were being put through intense interrogation.
