NCW chief says guests at singer Mika's party who laughed when actress Rakhi Swant was kissed may face action.

New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday sought footage of the party where actress Rakhi Sawant was allegedly forcibly kissed by singer Mika.

The commission, which has taken a strong view of Rakhi’s allegation, wanted to see the footage to know whether people at the party made “light of the forced kiss”.

"We have asked TV channels to send us footage of the party as we want to identify the guests who made fun of the incident. Action should be taken against all those who made light of it," said NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas.

"What we have seen on TV has left us stunned. It is clearly a case of sexual assault," she said. Emphasising that every girl should take training in self-defence to deal with such situations, Vyas said had she been in Sawant's place, "I would have slapped him (Mika) then and there."

The Commission, taking cognisance of a complaint submitted by Sawant against Mika, has sought a report from Mumbai police on the action taken on an FIR lodged by the actress in the matter.

"It is not a matter of an individual or of Rakhi alone. This is a symbolic case through which we want to make it clear that women cannot be treated as objects," Vyas said.

Sawant has complained to the NCW that she was sexually assaulted by Mika, saying he "forcibly kissed" her at his birthday bash.
