Rajasthan BJP on Tuesday said it would hold statewide demonstration on June 14 to protest the recent hike in power tariff. "The hike in power tariff has increased financial burden on people and the move should be withdrawn," BJP state vice president Arun Chaturvedi said in Jaipur.
He said BJP would hold demonstrations at all district headquarters on June 14 and the party workers will burn effigy of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to protest the tariff hike. Meanwhile in Bikaner, BJP Rajasthan president Vasundhara Raje said voters will give a fitting reply to Congress in the upcoming assembly elections.
At a meeting in Nokha town, Raje said the Congress government has betrayed people by raising power tariff three times during its tenure and it has disturbed domestic budget of people who are already facing the burden of high inflation.
The Congress government raised the tariff by 22.8 per cent in September 2011, 17.6 per cent in August 2012 and 14 per cent in June this year. "Despite the hike, there is no adequate supply to domestic and agriculture consumers...If BJP is voted to power, we will conduct an inquiry in the matter," Raje said.
