JAJPUR: Low pressure-induced heavy rain since Tuesday night has compounded the woes of the flood-hit people of the district who have lost their houses in the flood.Locals alleged that even after six days of the flood, the district administration is yet to provide them with polythene sheets.  This apart, people have now started complaining of fever and cold. So far, seven persons have died in the flood.Sources in the district administration, however, said the flood situation has not deteriorated following rains. “Water level in the Mahanadi has not risen due to the rain. Rather the flood water is now receding,” said Jajpur Collector Anil Kumar Samal. He, however, added that some pockets in Barachana, Bari, Dasdarathapur, Dharmasala and Jajpur blocks are still cut off from the mainstream.Kendrapara: Heavy rain hit life in the flood-ravaged villages of Kendrapara on Wednesday. Rain has been lashing the district for the last two days and the worst affected are the persons who have taken shelter under makeshift tents.   Over a lakh families in the district have lost their houses to the flood and a majority of them are yet to get relief. Crops over many acres have been submerged. Official sources said, in the absence of more boats, the administration is unable to carry out relief and rescue works systematically.Collector P K Patnaik said 151 motorboats and 249 country boats are operating in the flood-affected areas for the rescue and relief works. A total of 4,45,332 persons of 376 villages in the district have been affected. Free kitchens have been started at 75 places.
