New Delhi: The CBI will on Thursday open lockers of two retired officers, Lt General Thamburaj and former Defence Estate Officer SR Nayyar, in the Pune land scam case. Sources have told CNN-IBN that the CBI is examining documents seized from their homes.
They are also pouring over documents seized from Kalpataru builders, the firm the army officers allegedly favoured. An official army statement said that there will be zero tolerance towards corruption. The case has been handed over to the CBI after an internal inquiry.
The CBI on Wednesday filed a case against the two retired Army officials for alleged cheating and criminal misconduct in settling a dispute involving defence land in Pune. The CBI case comes after a complaint by the Defence Ministry.
According to the CBI, retired Lt Gen Thamburaj, and retired Defence Estate Officer SR Nayyar showed undue favors to Pune-based Kalpataru builders. The company was given 0.96 acres on the promise that it will build flats for Army officials. But it pulled out of the deal and later Thamburaj and Nayyar settled the matter out of court despite several court orders given in favor of the Army.
