KG Balakrishnan's son-in-law allegedly amassed wealth worth crores of rupees.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan has ordered a vigilance inquiry against former chief justice of India KG Balakrishnan's son-in-law PV Srinijan.

Srinijan is alleged to amassed wealth worth crores of rupees which are disproportionate to his known sources of income

Retired Supreme Court judge Justice VR Krishna Iyer has been demanding for the removal of Balakrishnan as National Human Rights Commission Chairperson and a high-level investigation into allegations against his family.

Law Minister M Veerappa Moily had on December 28 said that the matter needed to be verified.

"The demand by Justice VR Krishna Iyer... how far the former CJI, Justice Balakrishnan was involved in it. Whether he has misused his office as CJI - these matters have to be verified. Without basis I cannot speak (on it)," he said in Bangalore.

Srinijin, who had declared only assets worth Rs 25,000 in the affidavit filed in the 2006 Assembly elections (he was the Congress candidate from Njarackal,) now allegedly owns several prime properties, including a riverside plot of 2.5 acres at Annamanada in Thrissur.

Both Srinijin and Sony are practising advocates.
