KOCHI: The timely completion of the reconstruction of the North Rail Overbridge (ROB) is likely to be affected as the relocation of the 66 KV power cable passing through the eastern side of the ROB is yet to be completed. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) project director P Sriram told City Express that the work was lagging owing to the delay in relocating the cables. “There is a delay in the piling work as the cable passes directly beneath the pile. Only half of the work has been completed so far. We are waiting for the permission from the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). Steps are being taken to solve the issue as soon as possible,” said Sriram. However, KSEB officials stated that they were in charge of the supervision only and that it was up to the DMRC to implement the work. “According to the plan, it is up to the DMRC to conduct the work. We have been assigned the supervision only. For the relocation work of the cables to move forward, the Power Transmission Coordination Committee (PTCC) should give clearance. Procedures are underway to acquire the same. The PTCC will inspect all the procedures related to rerouting the cable before giving the consent,” said Radhakrishnan Pillai, Executive Engineer (Transmission), KSEB. “If the relocation work is done without getting the clearance, there will be delay in energising the cables. In that case, there will be a major power disruption. Whereas, the present set up will cause power disruption only while joining the cables after rerouting,” he added. As per the actual plan, the DMRC has planned to complete the reconstruction of the motor bays within six months and that of the main bridge by 12 months. But, the delay in relocating the 66 kv power cable is raising apprehensions over the timely completion of the project.
