Posco to open office at Nuagaon

PARADIP: To expedite the felling of trees and construction work at the proposed project site, Posco authorities have decided to open its office at Nuagaon panchayat.A site under Dadhibman Gramya Forest Committee has been identified for the office to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh. The only other office of Posco is at Kujang, about 20 km from the project site.It hampered proper monitoring of the construction work and distribution of compensation, said a senior Posco official, adding the office at Nuagaon would help expedite the work.Meanwhile, Nuagaon villagers have rejected the company’s offer of security guard jobs to 30 youths by returning the uniforms and shoes.The villagers are also protesting opening of the office here demanding fulfillment of their six demands.In another development, Paradip  ADM Surjeet Das and Special Land Acquisition Officer Nrusingh Swain interacted with villagers, village headmen and elected representatives at Kujang seeking their cooperation to resume Posco construction work.Collector Narayan Chandra Jena also held discussions with villagers of Nuagaon and Gadakujang.
