Bihar Police on Friday rubbished media reports quoting a central security agency that the state Minorities Welfare Minister Shahid Ali Khan was suspected to have links with two Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives.
"We have received reports from Motihari and Sitamarhi SPs that Khan has no link with the two IM activists Jameel Akhtar and Mansoor Sai - natives of East Champaran district," Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Headquarters, Ravindra Kumar told reporters at a press conference.
Kumar said the Bihar Police had received a letter from the SSB last month seeking verification of charge about Khan allegedly having links with the two IM operatives on the basis of which the Special Task Force (STF) asked the Motihari and Sitamarhi SPs to probe the matter. Both of them have found the allegation against the Minister as false, he said.
The Minister told reporters that he never had any contact with any IM operative, but said it was quite possible the two might know him. Stating that it was convenient for the media and his detractors to accuse any person from the Muslim minority of terror links, Khan demanded a probe and said either he should be prosecuted if the charge against him was proved true or those accusing him should be brought to book.
