Police shoot-out erupts in London suburb
Police called in a negotiator to deal with a suspected gunman after the shootout.

London: A shoot-out was reported Tuesday evening in London’s posh King's Road area.

Officers were called to Markham Square after reports of shots being fired from a house there shortly before 5 pm, Britain's Metropolitan police said.

One eyewitness said, "We thought they were firecrackers at the beginning. By the time a third one went off, one of our neighbours went outside to ask what was going on and the shooting continued. That's when I called the police and they came pretty much immediately."

Police called in a negotiator to deal with a suspected gunman after the shootout. A spokesman said the man was believed to be alone, and added that no injuries were reported and that no arrests had yet been made.

Police and eyewitnesses said the officers were then shot at, and armed police also discharged their weapons, according to a statement.

The armed siege ended on Tuesday evening with the gunman being shot. No other injuries or hostages have been reported. The identity of the gunman was not revealed.
