Mumbai: Television actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who acted in the popular serial 'Balika Vadhu', was found dead in her home in Mumbai on Friday. She was found hanging in her home at around 4 pm on Friday.
While the police suspect it to be a case of suicide, a senior police official has said that it is too early to say about the cause of the death.
Mumbai Police DCP Vikram Deshpande said, "The search is going on in the flat where apparently the prima facie suicide has taken place, EDR has been registered and we are doing investigation. It is too early to say the cause of the death."
This comes even as Pratyusha's boyfriend Rahul Singh is being questioned by the police. It was Rahul who informed police and Pratyush's relatives of her death.
According to sources, no suicide note has been recovered from Pratyusha's residence, where she allegedly committed suicide. Mumbai police is investigating the circumstances leading up to her death. Post mortem is being conducted at Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon West area of Mumbai.
Pratyusha had reportedly told her friends that she had not been getting any assignments since March 2015. The actress was also having some troubles in her relationship with Rahul Singh.
The neighbours and family members of the actress have also expressed shock at the incident, many claiming that Pratyusha was not one of those who would commit suicide.
"We are all very shocked about this. Few days back only I met her and Rahul. They seemed absolutely fine, never thought anything of this kind. She seemed fine when I saw her," said one of her neighbours.
Pratyusha's sister Rishita has also said that it is unbelievable for her that the TV actress would have committed suicide. "I was in the tuition classes. When I came back, I saw everyone was crying at home. I cannot believe that my sister can commit suicide. She cannot do this," she said.
Her last status message on Whatsapp read, "Marke bhi muh na tuzse modana" (even after death won't be turning my face away from you) with a smiley.
Apart from 'Balika Vadhu', her other major appearances on the small screen were in 'Bigg Boss 7', a reality show, and 'Jhalak Dikhla Ja', a dance programme. She was last seen in TV show 'Hum Hain Naa'.
