The Bihar Police on Sunday arrested 10 persons and busted an inter-state gang involved in looting of trucks.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Patna, Manu Maharaj said, "Acting on intelligence inputs that a few criminals had assembled near a bridge under Gauri Chak police station in the district, we constituted a team under City SP Ashish Bharti also consisting of DSP Ramakant Prasad and other police officials. It netted the criminals."
Maharaj said the gang used to hand-over the looted trucks to another gang operating in Jharkhand.
The SSP also said that the busted gang was behind several incidents of looting of trucks, extortion and dacoity in Patna, Nalanda, Nawada, Koderma (Jharkhand) districts.
Three pistols, a few bullets, an SUV and narcotic injections were seized from them.
Police officials claimed the gang was led by one Virendra Paswan who is currently lodged in Hajipur jail.
They also said that the gangsters used to either drug or threaten the drivers and helpers of goods-laden trucks and
looted them.
The goods and the vehicles were sold in the market.
Police officials also claimed the gang has also connections with notorious criminals Dilip Singh and Chandan Sonar, who are the main accused in the kidnapping of Gujarat-based industrialist Sohail Hingora, in which over Rs 9 crore ransom was collected by the history-sheeters.
