BANGALORE: Two men, who were extorting money from vendors and public claiming to be policemen in K R Market area have been arrested.
The racket was busted when they were confronted by real policemen who were patrolling the area. The accused, Noushad Ahmed (25) and Shoukath Basha (24) were working as mechanics in a private battery manufacturing company.A few months ago during a visit to Kalasipalya, they hit upon the idea to extort money from public and vendors who were violating rules. When initial attempts fetched money from vendors , they decided to continue this to make quick money.

Everyday, the duo would approach roadside vendors and take protection money from them threatening to seize their goods for encroaching on footpaths. They would also threaten general public for littering in the area, jaywalking and even blackmail prostitutes and pimps in the market area posing as policemen.

They sometimes said they were from the crime branch and were in Mufti, police said.
