Pluss Polymers wins CII Industrial Innovation Award 2014 for MiraCradle Neonate Cooler

New Delhi: Pluss polymers, a materials research and manufacturing company involved in the field of specialty polymeric additives and phase change materials for thermal energy storage, has won the CII Industrial Innovation Award 2014 in the Manufacturing sector -Micro and Small Enterprise Category. The award was given for the company's first healthcare product - MiraCradle - Neonate Cooler: a low cost passive cooling device for treating newborn babies suffering from birth asphyxia.

It has been developed in collaboration with Christian Medical College, Vellore. It is the answer to the deaths due to birth asphyxia in India and other developing countries. According to WHO report in 2012, approximately 150,000 babies due died due to birth asphyxia in India and 700,000 across the world. MiraCradle - Neonate Cooler has the potential to save these lives.

Over 100 companies participated in the CII Industrial Innovation Awards and after initial screening, 65 companies were shortlisted for a Site Visit by the jury. 25 companies made it to the final application round and presented their innovations to the jury.

Commenting on the award, Mr. Samit Jain- MD, Pluss Polymers, said "We are very proud to have been chosen as the winners of the CII innovation award, in the manufacturing sector, for MiraCradle- Neonate Cooler. MiraCradle - Neonate Cooler has the potential to revolutionize treatment of neonatal asphyxia, by also significantly lowering the initial equipment cost by almost 10 times, than the currently available options. We have made investment in setting up a dedicated R&D facility which continuously focuses on creating products which are innovative and cost effective and are the only company in India manufacturing Phase Change Materials. Receiving the CII recognition only motivated us to further accelerate our quest for introducing the most innovative products in the market."

The awards were adjudged by an eminent jury comprising 14 industry experts including Mr. Anand Anadalingam, Dean - Imperial College Business School London, Mr. Anil Gupta- National Innovation Council Professor, IIM, Ahmedabad, Mr. Devi Singh- Director, IIM Lucknow, Nirmalya Kumar, Professor of Marketing- Director of Aditya Birla India Centre, London Business School, Mr. RK Shevgaonkar- Director, IIT Delhi, among other prominent personalities.

Organized by CII, the awards felicitate organizations for their efforts that benefit the environment and society. The awards are one of the leading assessment methods for innovation in India.
