Wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Sushil Kumar and their coach Yashvir Singh fielded a flurry of queries, first from school students and later from the media. Students questioned them on various issues, including their training methodology.
When one child asked Sushil why he did not consider a career in cricket, as it is financially more lucrative, he replied, “It did not occur to me at all. After our performances in the Olympics, wrestlers are now respected.” When another student pertinently asked: “Now that you are 29, will you be able to give your best in the next Olympics?”, the grappler repllied that a wrestler can perform well till the age of 35,“Which means, I have time to win the gold medal.”
Singh expressed satisfaction at the facilities provided by the government to the wrestlers after the Beijing Olympics. On his students, Singh explained,“The two are equally talented; they have their unique characteristics. Most importantly, they are good friends.”
“Winning the medal was foremost in my mind, despite my injury,” said Dutt when questioned on what spurred him to go for the medal despite sustaining an eye injury in his final bout. On whether there is pressure on him to emulate the two-time Olympic medal winner Kumar, he replied: “I only take inspiration from my friend. There is no pressure.” He added that he intended to start a school on the land provided to him by the Haryana government, in which he will impart the training his coach had given him.
