Admitted a Patna hospital for an operation to remove his appendix, the rickshaw-puller Surendra was wheeled out of the operation theatre with his appendix intact but both his kidneys missing.

Patna: A rickshaw-puller, who had both his kidneys stolen by a doctor during a surgery for apendicitis at an unregistered clinic at Mahnar in Bihar's Vaishali district died on Saturday morning.

Admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH)on December 10, for an operation to remove his appendix, the rickshaw-puller Surendra was wheeled out of the operation theatre with his appendix intact but both his kidneys missing.

A court in Hajipur has issued non-bailable warrants of arrest against the surgeon Dr R P Gupta of the clinic and his three assistants on charges of stealing Surendra's kidneys.

The warrant was issued after the 30-year-old rickshaw-puller's wife lodged an FIR with the Mahnar police.

"We are on the job to apprehend the accused who are absconding," Preeta Verma, SP (Vaishali) said.
