Commuters purchasing train tickets at unreserved counters had untold miseries, after the unreserved computerised ticketing system allegedly failed on Thursday evening.
Serpentine queues were witnessed at major ticket counters in Chennai, including Moore Market Complex near Central railway station, where chaos prevailed.
“I am supposed to board the Hyderabad-bound Charminar Express departing at 6.15 pm from Central. But, given the long queue, I may not be able to catch the train,” Rao, a passenger, said. He also complained that only one counter was functioning for people in two queues.
Another worried passenger Prabhu from Jolarpet claimed that he was waiting in the queue for about an hour to get tickets. “If I am going to miss Yelagiri Express. I’m sure that I will face difficulties in reaching my destination,” he added.
When contacted, a railway official said that an electrical problem caused the disruptions in the ticketing system between 3.30 pm and 5.10 pm, which was restored later.
