Mumbai: While Hindi films are only now making their way to theatres in Pakistan, music has always made it's way across the border to our country. And the latest musician to cross the LoC is Shehzad Roy.
With his catchy numbers and boyish good looks that make female fans swoon, Roy is the latest musician to try his luck in India from across the salt desert.
A youngster whose influences have ranged from U2 to Bryan Adams, Kishore Kumar and R D Burman to Abida Parveen, Shehzad Roy is in Mumbai to promote his album Salli.
“This album is not inspired from anybody. I made this on flight from Karachi to Islamanad,” Roy said.
This 27-year old identifies the guitar as the love of his life and the major driving force behind taking up this profession.
Roy has come a long way since his shaky debut a decade ago. "I started out playing the piano but then I told my Chinese teacher to teach me the guitar instead. I released my first album in '95. One grows with age, you meet new people, travel and get inspired,” Roy said.
In addition to being a prodigy Roy also runs the Zindagi Trust, an NGO that even got Bryan Adams to pitch in.
“We sang Lets make it a night to remember together and he said ‘I can’t believe in Pakistan 20,000 people are singing with me,” Roy said.
An avid fan of Priety Zinta and Rani Mukherjee, like any other youngster, Roy harbours dreams of working in Bollywood. And the way he has charmed Pakistan he hopes to carve a niche for himself in India too.
“I would love to work with Shankar Mahadevan and A R Rahman,” Roy said.
