BANGALORE: It may not be an exaggeration to say that Yelahanka Satellite Town is one of the well maintained and developed wards of Yelahanka Assembly Constituency. It is one of the few wards of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to have maximum number of parks and greenery.Yelahanka Satellite Town consists of areas such as A Sector, B Sector, Third Phase, Sanitary Course, Mathru Layout, PM Layout, Someswara Layout, Sharadanagar, Judicial Layout, Allalasandra, Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar, Ambedkarnagar and Chikka Bommasandra. Most of the roads are asphalted and the BBMP authorities have taken up measures to supply water by digging bore wells.  However, there is a lot to do to ensure the residents staying near the storm water drain near Ambedkar Nagar and other areas. Now, the storm water drain has become a sewage water drain. One has to search for handkerchief to protect nostril from the bad odour that emanates from the drain. The need of the hour is to demolish the dingy houses where more than 243 families are staying. “There are a some vested interests in the slum. They are opposing the BBMP to construct new houses (ground + one floor). The construction of houses has been delayed due to these vested interests. The BBMP will take up the construction of houses shortly,” said M Muniraju, Corporator, Yelahanka Satellite Town. When asked about the nauseating condition of storm water drain, Muniraju said that the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has taken up underground drainage work at many areas in the ward. “We will take up storm water drain work as soon as the BWSSB completes the UGD work.  We have a planned to construct a bridge on the storm water drain and widen the road from Ambedkar Nagar to Chikka Bommasandra,” said Muniraju.Meanwhile, residents of A Sector want the BBMP to asphalt the remaining roads in the area and appreciated the BBMP whatever work it has taken up so far.  M L Sujatha, a resident of A Sector, Chikkabommasandra, “We used to struggle a lot to walk on these slushy roads during monsoon. Now, the roads are neat. The BBMP has taken up measure strengthen the drains.” She added, “I want the BBMP to take up repair work of the bore wells that need immediate attention to augment water supply.” Echoing similar opinion, C Ramachandra of Somewaranagar said that the BBMP has to cover the open drains with concrete blocks. “Now we get water on alternate days. Earlier, it was once in two weeks,” said C Ramachandra, a resident of Someswaranagara. The BBMP has plans to augment Cauvery water supply at Judicial Layout. It has also started construction of 21 houses at Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar for SC and STs under ‘22.75 per cent’ scheme. If everything goes according to the set plan, it has also proposed to construct 33 houses for the SC and ST families this year.
