BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has learnt lesson after their proposed plans included in the 2010-11 budget never saw light.Sharing that the BBMP 2011-12 budget would be presented within a month’s duration, Mayor Sharadamma said that the lack of implementation of many welfare measures earmarked in the earlier budget, could now be avoided.“We are not avoiding any major schemes, but will ensure that if mentioned in the budget, then we would be able to implement it as well”, she said.“We are still in the estimation process and only then can we decide the actual estimation of the budget”, she said.If sources within the ruling party are to be believed, the Mayor would have to propose a budget exceeding last year’s, which was valued at Rs 8,848 crores. Added to this, the Mayor also stated that they would approach the state government to provide grants that was promised to them last year, but never given. “We will ask for the same amount (Rs1,300 crores) or more, depending on our requirements”, she said.Taxation and Finance Committee Chairman G Manjunath Raju told TNIE, that their review meeting would conclude soon and they would be prepared to face the challenges of revenue generation this year.“We are currently reviewing all 28 departments of the Palike”, he said and added, “The receipts and the steps proposed to implement the same are being approached in a pragmatic manner”.Raju also said that they would focus their expenditure on education, welfare and health, in the upcoming budget.Manjunath said they are looking at revenue from betterment charges from converted sites as well. But his predecessor, P N Sadashiva had also estimated an earning of Rs 800 crores, which was rejected and has till date not been approved.
