KADAPA: Pulivendula police registered cases against Kadapa MP and YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy and 300 of his party activists and supporters under non-bailable sections on Monday.Cases were registered following a protest demonstration by Jagan and his followers at the Pulivendula police station on Sunday evening and causing damage to the property there.Jagan and his followers went to the police station protesting against the alleged manhandling of Rehamathulla, a YSRC activist, by the Pulivendula police. He claimed that police had thrashed Rehamathulla for carrying the name of a YSRC leader YS Manohar Reddy on his bike’s number plate. The MP staged a dharna for three hours and called it off as he was to leave for Rajahmundry to attend the funeral of former minister Jakkampudi Ramamohan Rao who died on Sunday.Speaking to mediapersons on Monday, Pulivendula circle inspector J Shanakaraiah said Rehamathulla was obstructing the traffic and the constable on beat there scolded him for that.An argument ensued and both clashed.Rehamathulla was brought to the police station and admonished for violating law.``A small issue was magnified and a protest demonstration was held, during which some property of the police station got damaged.Staging a protest demonstration when the Police Act 30 was in promulgation is an offence.Further, obstructing the police personnel from discharging their duties is also an offence.Hence registration of the cases against Jaganmohan Reddy and others,’’ the CI explained. In all, cases were registered under 13 sections and almost all of them are non-bailable.These include Sec 147 (unlawful assembly), Sec 114 & 186 (obstructing public servants), Sec 427, 506 r/w 149, Sec 3 of Public Damage Act, Sec 7 (1) of Criminal Law Amendment Act.
