No temple, mosque or gurudwara allowed on road sides, along highways.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has asked the Centre to ensure that no place of worship is constructed in public places.
The apex court says no temple, church, mosque or gurudwara should be constructed on a public street or a public space.
The centre is to file an affidavit in this regard within four weeks.
The directive came during the hearing of a petition challenging a Gujarat HC order.
In 2006, the Gujarat High court had ordered the demolition of all illegal structures including places of worship on public roads.
The SC ruling excludes already existing places of worship.
Details are awaited.
