DMK chief M Karunanidhi has said his party would not be part of the Union Cabinet reshuffle presently on the cards. He also suggested that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa could have first accepted the Prime Minister’s grant of 9,000 cuft of Cauvery water from Karnataka, before moving the Supreme Court over the matter.
“There has been a lot of speculation. I can categorically say that no new DMK ministers of State will be appointed in the Cabinet reshuffle,” said Karunanidhi at his party HQ on Sunday.
He criticised Jayalalithaa, saying she would have won praise of the Supreme Court if she had first accepted the Prime Minister’s grant, at the recent meeting of the Cauvery River Authority, of 9000 cuft water from the Cauvery. Instead, she had straight away moved the Supreme Court, he noted.
Meanwhile, the DMK’s executive committee is set to meet on Monday morning.
The meeting comes in the wake of the cases against former DMK ministers K Ponmudy and KN Nehru, Periyasamy, and the arrest of Dayanidhi Alagiri in the granite scam.
Alagiri to Attend the Executive Meet
Arriving in the city on Sunday, the Union Minister for fertilizers snapped that he would “obviously” be part of the meeting, chaired by M Karunanidhi.
When Dayanidhi Alagiri’s part in the granite scam was broached, the DMK heavyweight said, “So much has been written and shown about it (granite scam) by the media. You did not ask me before publishing then, so why ask now?
