WARANGAL: In a move to crack a whip on erring students and curb drug menace on campus, the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, disciplinary committee on Tuesday announced that it was debarring Joe Prasen, a BTech third year student caught redhanded with huge amounts of Ganja in the classroom recently, for the academic year 20112012. NIT authorities said that he will not be allowed to attend classes, reside in the hostel and also be barred from attending placements this year.
"He will continue his engineering from 20122013," they said. Joe Prasen, a third year Biotechnology student, was caught by the police and during the investigation revealed that two ganja traders were part of the supply chain for prevalent drug abuse on NIT campus.This apart, stringent action has been taken against 15 other students for violating rules on campus. The disciplinary committee has fined a fourth year civil engineering students with `4,000 and has ordered him to do social work on campus for 20 hours. NIT director Prof. T Srinivasa Rao directed the committee to implement the decisions at the earliest.
