BANGALORE: The condition of the three-month-old baby Neha Afreen is still critical, the doctors who are treating her at Vani Vilas Hospital, said on Tuesday. “She started moving her limbs, but she is still critical,” her attendants maintained. They said this was “a sign of improvement”. However, the doctors stated, “We can comment about her condition only after six weeks.”Earlier on Tuesday morning, one of the doctors had said that there was no bleeding and she was given blood on Monday. “We are closely monitoring her condition round the clock,” the doctor had stated.However, Dr Some Gowda, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, maintained, “The baby’s condition is still critical. Her pulse, BP and respiratory functions are stable. Convulsions happened at 11 in the morning and 4 in the evening. She is still on ventilator. Doctors from NIMHANS who examined her said that the haemorrhage has increased a bit."Farooq’s Custody ExtendedMeanwhile, Umar Farooq (25), Afreen’s father who is accused in the case, confessed to having tried to kill his daughter as he did not want a baby girl and also to having tried to murder her on earlier occasions, the police said. Meanwhile, a local court extended his judicial custody up to April 21.KG Halli police arrested him on April 8 following a complaint by his wife about the incident.Reshma Appears before CWCIn the meantime, Reshma Banu, appearing before the the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Tuesday, gave details of the harassment she underwent. Meena Jain, Chairperson of the Committee, said they have decided to hand over Reshma and Afreen (after she recovers) to ‘Aasra’, an NGO. “This NGO will give moral support and from CWC, we will provide free legal aid,” she added.“Farooq’s arrest is a lesson for culprits like him,”, Meera said adding that they were searching for his first wife so that they can “build a strong case” against him.“We want to ensure that Reshma gets justice,” she stated.Meanwhile, Reshma’s father vented ire his son-in-law and lamented that physical and mental harassment is “still prevalent in the society”. He said he would take care of his daughter and the grand daughter.
