The ashes of Congress leaders killed in recent Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh were immersed in the holy Sangam here on Thursday in the presence of a number of leaders of the party's Uttar Pradesh unit.
Urns containing the ashes of the party's Chhattisgarh unit chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh and former MLA Uday Mudaliar arrived in the city by separate trains and were received by UP Congress president Nirmal Khatri, former UPCC chief and MLA Rita Bahuguna Joshi, senior leader Pramod Tiwari and local legislator Anugrah Narain Singh among others.
The ashes were taken to the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati in a large procession chanting slogans in praise of the leaders who had attained "martyrdom".
After immersing the ashes in the Sangam, the Congress leaders denounced the BJP government in Chhattisgarh for "deliberately ignoring" security needs of the party leaders' cavalcade which was attacked by Naxals and declared "we will not be cowed down by such violent acts".
