KOCHI: The Indian Association of Paediatrics (IAP) presented its national award to Kerala IAP for the latter's efforts in reducing the Infant Mortality Rate and for serving as a role model for the country.The award was received by the Kerala IAP coordinator Dr Sachidananda Kamath from Excise Minister K Babu during the inaugural ceremony of the twoday national conference of paediatricians.More than 4,500 doctors and nurses from the state were trained in the protocols for the first minute treatment of newborns by the IAP in association with the National Rural Health Mission (NHRM). The IAP has organised around 120 workshops for the training.IAP national president Dr T U Sukumaran said such training programmes were instrumental in reducing the Infant Mortality by 70 percent in the state.
