CHENNAI: As part of the Brahmotsavam celebrations in the Mylapore Shri Madhava Perumal Temple, the ‘Nachiar Tirukolam,’ worship will be held today. The Brahmotsavam celebrations began in the Madhava Perumal Temple on May 11 and will be held till May 21. Besides the Nachiar Tiukolam worship on Wednesday, Lord Perumal would appear on Hanumantha vahanam.The authorities said a Soorna Abhishekham (will be performed on May 17. The yanai vahanam (Elephant carrier) procession will be taken in the streets on that day.May 18 marks the Thiruthaer (Temple car) procession, followed by Kalinga narthanam display at night.On May 19, the Perumal takes the manifestation of Vennai thazhi Krishnan (butter bowl). The Lord mounts on horseback (kudhirai vaahanam).On May 20, the swami will ascend on the palanquin dropping his cloak. There is a poomballakku ( flower -ornate palanquin ) on Sunday.On May 21, there will be 12 forms of worship followed by flower archana, recitation of Thiruvaimozhi sacred hymns and Saatrumurai (chorus chanting of Prabandham hymns).The vasantha utsavam (Spring fest ) will be celebrated from May 22 to 26 for Sri Perumal, Sri Ramar and Shri Peyazhwar in the temple precincts.The Mylapore Madhava Perumal temple was the birthplace of Peyazhwar, one of the twelve Azhwars of Srivaishnava school of faith. Peyalvar was born in Tirumayilai and it is said that he was an incarnation of Vishnu’s sacred sword.
