THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was indeed a proud moment for music composer George Peter and his crew. When a high-profile audience comprising Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and others gave a standing ovation after viewing his outstanding work ‘One- The Unity Song’, a musical submission for national integration and communal harmony, he was overflowing with joy. The song, which was recorded in 150 days and featuring 144 personalities, was launched in the city on Wednesday. ‘One-The Unity Song’ is a conglomeration of 51 voices, advocating the music lovers to dispel hatred and disharmony from within one’s mind and tread the greener pastures of harmony and non-violence. The endeavour was from the son of Apu John Joseph, son of Minister P J Joseph. Chandy, while addressing the guests, said that if the people of the nation displayed unity, all sort of progress will be at an easy reach. “But our drawback is that cracks occur among the public occasionally. ‘Ahimsa’ is the ideology that we have been nurturing in our minds. It is not a symbol of weakness or submission but a powerful exhibition of self-confidence and trust. The theme of the song is to promote non-violence and harmony among the public. It deserves appreciation,” he said. George Peter, while conveying the message of the song, said that what is being attempted is meant to mark the beginning of the end of hatred. “Let the message of fraternity, non-violence and universal brotherhood spread to the rest of the world in the same manner spices and Tandoori from the country gained acclaim abroad,” he hoped. Apu John Joseph said that his father, who also attended the function, was all supportive after listening the lyrics and gave the go-ahead. The song begins with the lyrics ‘Hum ek hey, Sada ke liye,’ rendered melodiously by noted Hindustani musician Ustad Gulam Musthafa Khan. The melody later shifts its tempo and treads into a note of lavish rhapsody. Noted personalities and celebrities like K J Yesudas, K S Chithra, Vasundara Das, Sivamani, Mohanlal and Mammootty also appears in the song. The song is rendered in 17 Indian languages and was shot and recorded in locations across the country.
