Mumbai: The BEST workers in Mumbai have decided to call off their bus strike on Wednesday with immediate effect. The Bombay High Court had earlier ordered the bus drivers and conductors to resume work.
The BEST buses in Mumbai had gone off the roads with 26,000 drivers and conductors on a strike over the new computerised scheduling system which could mean longer working hours. The drivers and conductors had a dispute with the management over the new scheduling system affecting at least 335 BEST routes.
BEST runs the public bus service in Mumbai. About 50 lakh students have been affected. "School exams are going on. My daughter has an exam today but she is waiting here for a bus instead," said a resident.
