New Delhi: Filmmaking is generally considered a costly art but there are enthusiasts who dare to make films despite severe resource crunch. One such group has come up with the first digital film of Maithili.
Known as 'Mukhiya Jee', the film is expected to hit the screens this festive season only.
Made at a moderate budget of Rs 20 lakhs, 'Mukhiya Jee' is a satire on the existing social and political scenario of Mithilanchal, the northern part of Bihar.
The story opens with two brothers who are widely famous for their verbal battles over trivial issues. Their shows are so interesting that people around villages buy the show tickets even in black.
Their committed involvement in mutual rambling makes the god of abuses pleased as his agent appears and gifts them a common son who is christened as 'Mukhiya Jee'.
The two brothers don't accept Mukhiya Jee as their common son and thus the boy leaves the house and befriends some village kids. With the friendly kids team Mukhiya Jee kicks several hilarious mischief and one good day he decides to fight village headman election.
As per the new rules, one must has to visit jail being convicted of doing some social revolution, thus the teenage boy decides to start a sanitation drive but soon finds himself in jail.
However, a cursed jail guard provokes him for a jailbreak, which the boy eventually does.
Soon, the movements initiated by Mukhiya Jee start to bring sense of awareness among people and finally they unanimously elect Mukhiya Jee as the village headman.
The director of the film Vikash Jha explains the idea behind the film, "We are oriented with the objective to make a class apart Maithili cinema with brightest cinematic glory. Apart from any political convictions, this film deals with exaggerated imagination of usual events happening around society that is usually overlooked by civilians. It's about the journey of a god gifted character whose name is Mukhiya Jee and who confronts with social norms in his own way that creates a new shape of screen entertainment."
It's among those few Maithili films which can boast of 5.1 Dolby digital sound. The film's music director Pravesh Mallick is hopeful about the reception of the music by the common audiences, "The music of 'Mukhiya Jee' is quite different from the others as it has very new concept especially for any regional cinema. Two songs are based on objects like paan (beetle) and mobile, a very soulful and heart touching romantic song, a typical kirtan which we recorded live for feel, an item song, then songs for introduction of hero and heroine. I am sure that the audience will feel like main stream film's songs."
With the release of 'Mukhiya Jee', the makers will be hoping to grab some part of the regional cinema industry which is prominently dominated by Bhojpuri films in Bihar and Jharkhand.
