Modi, BJP in grip of poll fear: Vasan

The Tamil Nadu unit of the Congress party on Tuesday observed Gandhiji’s birthday. The party also availed of the opportunity to observe the death anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj and the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Congress leaders from the state paid floral tributes to portraits of the three leaders, and took a customary pledge against violence.

Speaking after the function, Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan lashed out at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. “Modi and the BJP are making such allegations only because they are gripped by fear over the outcome of elections,” he said, adding that the BJP was adopting double standards in taking a stand against FDI in the retail sector.

Vasan also asked the Karnataka government to follow the Supreme Court order in the Cauvery water row in earnest. “The Supreme Court has passed a judgement that will benefit farmers. It is a democratic duty of the Karnataka government to follow the orders,” he said.

TNCC chief BS Gnanadesikan, other leaders KV Thangkabalu, S Thirunavukkarasar, SR Balasubramaniam, Vasantha Kumar and TN Youth Congress president Yuvaraja were among those who took part in the function at the TNCC HQ.
