ARAKU VALLEY (VISAKHAPATNAM DT): Amidst tight security, Day One of the three-day tour of first-time MLAs and MLCs was spent on a visit to Borra caves and Araku valley with just a token interaction with tribals. Though the tour is aimed at letting the legislators have firsthand knowledge of the woes of tribals, forest products, protection of wild animals and mining, among others, the MLAs did not enter into any worthwhile discussion with tribals.Around 83 MLAs and MLCs, lead by Speaker Nadendla Manohar, left for Araku via Kothavalasa, S. Kota, Borra and Ananatagiri mandals by AC buses from Visakhapatnam airport. As per the schedule, the MLAs were supposed to proceed to Paderu and have a darshan of goddess Modakondamma, followed by a visit to coffee gardens at Paderu and interaction with tribals, before proceeding to Araku. However, sources said the tour scheduled was changed to hoodwink Maoists at Lothugedda area of Chintapalle, and the MLAs left for Araku Valley directly.
