KOCHI: The proposed Kochi Metro Rail station at Vyttila will be built at the Mobility Hub. A decision regarding this was taken at a high-level meeting convened at the office of the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) here. Also, a special task force has been constituted to prepare a detailed report on the possibilities of setting up the station at the hub. The task force comprises officials from KITCO (Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organisation), NHAI (National Highway Authority of India), DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation), Vyttila Mobility Hub Society and KMRL.Managing director of KMRL Tom Jose has instructed the officials to submit the detailed report within two weeks of time. As the hub is expected to be the centre of city’s transportation activities in the coming years, the station there is expected to offer better connectivity for people from distant places to the city. Also, aspects like parking facilities, rest room and other passenger-friendly elements provided by the hub, were considered. The meeting also observed that it is vital to offer rail connectivity to the hub as the Urban Development Ministry had already made it clear that the Mobility Hub should be an integrated medium of various transport sectors like road, water and rail. Vyttila Mobility Hub Society managing director M Beena, DMRC project manager P Sriram and NHAI project manager C T Abraham also attended the meeting.
