National Executive resolution demands reservation for most backward people among OBCs, accuses UPA of dividing society.

New Delhi: The National Executive of the BJP on Tuesday passed a resolution approving 27 per cent reservation for other backward classes (OBCs) in higher education but without compromising on merit and excellence.

The resolution follows BJP President Rajnath Singh view that reservation must be granted to the most backward people among OBCs and economically backward people of castes not in the OBC list.

The Government's management of the reservation controversy has divided society and its intention was not to ensure social justice but to take advantage in the elections, the resolution said.

The party took exception to the winding up of two Commissions appointed by the NDA government to study reservations for most backward classes and economically backward classes.

"The party line we have taken is very much similar to the one the party took in late eighties, a top party leader said.

BJP Chief Ministers said they agreed with the Monopoly and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission’s finding that multinational seed giant Monsonto was guilty of overcharging farmers for its BT Cotton seeds.

BJP-ruled states will issue orders and asking the seed company to fix the prices of BT Cotton as per the MRTPC, a senior leader said.

The Executive will conclude with the speeches of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Leader of Opposition L K Advani.
