KOCHI: The Kochi Vikasana Samithi on Tuesday submitted a memorandum on the Old Railway Station to Parliamentary Adviser to the Railway Minister P D T Achary. The memorandum will be handed over to the Railway Minister who will visit the state on September 19. “I will read the memorandum and take up the issue with the minister. Considering the fact that this railway station has some historical value, I will do everything to bring this issue to the notice of the Minister,” Achary told mediapersons. The memorandum was prepared earlier last week by the Vikasana Samithi, whose members have been working on this issue for quite some time. The Samithi’s main demand is that the old railway station should be revived into a passenger service unit. This would in turn reduce the traffic in the city and also provide a better platform for the commuters within and outside the city. The plan to revive the 22-acre railway station, which was built in 1902 by the erstwhile ruler of Kochi, is a vision focusing on balancing history with development.Presently, the Samithi is also focusing on reaching the public by conducting door-to-door campaigns about the issue.
