London: Former Beatle Paul McCartney is collaborating with Indian-origin musician Nitin Sawhney for a forthcoming song that speaks warmly of his ex-wife Heather Mills despite their bitter breakup.

Composer-guitarist Sawhney said the acoustic ballad titled "My Soul" is part of his forthcoming album "Undersound", to be released in October.

McCartney's marriage to the former model ended in a bitter and prolonged High Court divorce battle in February with Mills throwing a glass of water at his lawyer on the day of the judgment on March 18.

The settlement of 24.3 million pounds ($48 million) plus 35,000 pounds per annum for the upkeep of their daughter was widely interpreted as a victory for McCartney.

In spite of the public falling out, McCartney's song was described by Sawhney as “emotional".

“Paul has done a track about how he feels about Heather and what was going on with the paparazzi because no one has heard his side of it at all - so this will be the first time anyone hears a song relating to that subject,” said Sawhney.

"It's very emotional and a very powerful song - not like anything that people are used to Paul McCartney doing,” he added.

In the song, McCartney says Mills rescued him from the dark days after the death of his first wife Linda from breast cancer in 1998.

The lyrics read: “I was awakened by magic. I was alone in this world. Take me away from here.”

In other verses, however, the singer appears to lament the fact that he was not fully aware of the truth of former wife's early life. The chorus says the couple's hearts are now "two worlds apart".

The singer adds: “We could climb every mountain, swim through every sea. When all the world is asleep we could set ourselves free.”

A friend of McCartney told the Daily Mail: “What the song shows is that rather than feeling embittered towards Heather, Paul just feels sorry for her.”

“He feels sorry that she was never able to tell him the full truth about her past life. He feels that their romance happened so fast and so publicly that a lot never really got said.

“Paul knows Heather is a complex person and deeply misunderstood -- but that she has hardly helped herself by being less than transparent about her life.”
