New Delhi: The BSP will go solo in the Uttar Pradesh elections. BSP supremo Mayawati on Tuesday said that the party will contest all 400 seats without any alliance but she herself will not stand for elections.
Ruling out any alliance with any political party, she said she would not contest the elections because that would distract the attention of the party workers.
"Since our opponents are experts in spreading rumours, the BSP workers from adjoining constituencies could rush to the area from where I may contest and that could adversely affect our prospects in 15 seats," PTI quoted Mayawati as saying.
Giving indications that was not ruling out becoming Chief Minister, Mayawati said one of the successful MLAs could resign after the elections paving the way for a bye election from where she could contest.
The list released by Mayawati contained the names of 139 candidates from upper castes out of which 86 were Brahmins.
Backward class candidates accounted for 110 while 93 were from Scheduled Castes, though the reserved constituencies were only 89. Muslims got 61 seats.
