Sharapova said they had to split because Hogstedt was not able to meet the travel demands of international tennis.

Maria Sharapova has split from her coach Thomas Hogstedt who has been credited for shaping up the Russian tennis star's career graph in his three-year association with the world No. 2.

"After almost three years of working together, Thomas Hogstedt and I decided to part ways," Sharapova announced on her website.

Sharapova said they had to split because Hogstedt was not able to meet the travel demands of international tennis. "Due to personal issues, he was not able to travel in the near future and we both agreed it was the right time to move our separate ways. I am very thankful for all his work, and wish him much success in the future," said Sharapova.

When Hogstedt joined Sharapova's staff in 2010, she was ranked 18th. He became the Russian's head coach a year later, after which Sharapova won the French Open (2012) and reached two more Grand Slam finals in addition to the final of the London Olympics.

She will name Hogstedt's replacement "in a few days".
