New Delhi: More than a thousand people gathered on Thursday in Glasgow, Scotland to attend the start of the six-day yoga camp by Swami Ramdev.
People from all over Scotland converged at Glasgow's SECC around 6:00 am in the morning to attend the camp, billed to be the largest ever organised in the United Kingdom.
Supporting Scotland's campaign for good health, the Patanjali Yog Peeth (UK) Trust provided a complimentary coach service from Edinburgh.
"The diverse turnout of all ages and background clearly indicates the keen interest shown by Scots in improving their mental, physical and emotional well being," said Patanjali Yog Peeth (UK) Trust's Scottish campaign head, Sunita Poddar.
Ramdev, who went to Glasgow after holding a Yoga camp in the USA, was felicitated on Wednesday at the House of Commons by Glasgow MP Mohammed Sarwar and other MPs including Keith Vaz, Shailesh Vara, Lord Kamlesh Patel and Baroness Pola Uddin.
The highlights of the camp are expected to be a series of pranayam exercises (systematic breathing techniques) combined with yog asana postures, which would be conducted by Ramdev over the six days.
These yoga exercises are suitable for all ages and abilities, the Patanjali Yog Peeth said.
If practiced regularly and efficiently, key benefits can include reduced stress levels, improved circulation, healthier joints, enhanced strength, agility and body tone, weight regulation, boosted immune and digestive system, concentration and flexibility, it claimed.
