Manipur blockade lifted 4 days before PM visit
Chidambaram assured Nagas that the government would not take any unilateral decision on carving out new districts.

Imphal: In a major relief for Manipur, the economic blockade on national highways 39, 53 and 150 will finally be lifted from 6 am on Tuesday.

The development comes after Union Home Minister P Chidambaram assured the United Naga Council that the Manipur government would not take any unilateral decision on carving out new districts without consulting the Nagas.

Manipur has been reeling from the more than 100 days of economic blockade, which had sent prices spiraling, with petrol going for as much as Rs 200 per litre and gas cylinders hitting Rs 2000 per cylinder.

Earlier on Monday, an official had said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi would visit the blockade-hit state on December 3 to attend a series of programmes and address a public gathering.
