Police have arrested four persons, including an engineer, for allegedly kidnapping a 55-year-old goldsmith after his son failed to pay back borrowed money on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the absconding son, who came to know that his father was kidnapped because of him, committed suicide in Andhra Pradesh.
Police said Aravindan (30) of Apparao Street, Kancheepuram had allegedly taken money, promising jobs for graduates and had cheated them. Many had approached him to get their money back. Police said Aravindan had allegedly gone absconding after noticing people coming to his house to get back their money. Engineer Balaji from Chromepet was one among those who had given him money.
On Friday, a four-member gang including the engineer went to Aravindan’s house and kidnapped his father Babu (55), a goldsmith, and sped away in a car. Babu’s wife Shanthi lodged a police complaint. On Saturday night, police intercepted a car during a vehicle check at Keerai Mandapam and realised that it was the gang that had kidnapped the goldsmith. Police rescued Babu and arrested the four, identified as engineer Balaji (28) and his friends Velmurugan (26), Siva Bhupathy (30) and Ganapathy Thilagam (25).
Meanwhile, police got information that Aravindan had absconded to Nagari, AP and had allegedly committed suicide.
