A man has accused the Basaveshwaranagar police of “illegally detaining” his brothers in a bid to “fix” them in the murder of a 65-year-old man.
Nagaraju, a resident of Basaveshwaranagar told reporters on Sunday that his younger brothers, Jagadeesh and Mohan, both daily wage workers, were being interrogated in connection with the case from a month.
“Five days ago, the police took them in a private car and have not released them so far. I am deeply worried about them. The police are convincing them to be approvers in the murder case by offering money. They are also claiming that they would get them released on bail if they become approvers,” he alleged.
Speaking to Express, Nataraj, the family’s lawyer, said, “On Sunday morning, I went to see my clients after receiving a message from their relatives and the locals. But the police said they have not arrested anyone. When I went in the evening, they said they have arrested only Mohan, who will be produced before the court on Monday. They are hiding some facts,” he charged.
When contacted Basaveshwaranagar police, they said, “Two persons have been arrested in a murder case, but we don’t want reveal more details about them.”
‘Allegations not true’
S N Sidramappa, (DCP, West) said, “The allegations made by the family members are not true and they are purely fictitious. We will reveal everything about the accused on Monday.”
