Man clubbed to death in broad daylight

ALUVA: In a gory incident, a man was killed and another person suffered injuries when a miscreant attacked them with a wooden stick near the private bus stand here on Sunday morning. The deceased  is Manimestri aged 40. The injured Karavan Thankappan, 58, of Madakkathara Mannuthy, Thrissur, has been admitted to Karothukuzhi Hospital.The body of Mani was shifted to the Karothukuzhi Hospital mortuary. Mani was reportedly declared dead on arrival at the hospital. A police team led by SI Nishad Ibrahim nabbed Rajesh, 31, of Latha Nivas, Kundara, Kollam, in connection with the  murder. He is an employee of  a cashew nut factory in Ambunad, according to  the preliminary investigation.According to the police, Mani and Thankappan were relaxing on the verandah of a shop near the private stand at 10.30 am when the incident occurred.   Accused Rajesh allegedly struck Mani with a wooden stick. Thankappan was also attacked by the accused. Thankappan suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Karothukuzhi Hospital.The victims and the accused had a minor scuffle early in the morning. Later the victims slept on the verandah of a shop. Rajesh returned with a stick and hit the victims. Mani was hit on his head, local people said.The police recovered the wooden stick which was used for the assault.
